Complimentary breast cancer screening available for all women • City Centre Muscat, October 15 – 21 • City Centre Qurum, October 23- 24
Majid Al Futtaim’s two much-loved shopping destinations in the Sultnate - City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum, will once again collaborate with Oman Cancer Association (OCA) to raise awareness on the importance of breast screening and early detection of breast cancer.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of women each year and affecting countries at all levels of modernization. WHO released a statistic in 2016 that the cancer rates in the region are expected to double from an estimated 555,318 new cases of cancer in 2012 to nearly 961,098 in 2030. The National Cancer Institute states that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. According to Ministry of Health in Oman, 170 women are diagnosed with the disease every year, making it one of the most common cancers among Omanis.
“City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum are taking a stand with Oman Cancer Association (OCA) to support their efforts to fight against breast cancer and spread awareness of the importance of early detection. The initiative underlines Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability efforts to support the community and encourage well-being in line with our vision of creating great moments for everyone, everyday,” said Husam Al Mandhari, Senior Mall Manager, City Centre Muscat.
Currently there is not sufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer, therefore, early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control.
For this reason, one of the core aims of breast cancer awareness is to encourage screening for women. From October 15 – 21, 10 AM to 10PM at City Centre Muscat, OCA will be running a complimentary clinical breast examination for women of all ages, as well as providing an onsite mammogram facility for female shoppers, aged 40 and above. The mammogram facility will be also available at City Centre Qurum from 23- 24 October
“OCA gives women a fighting chance by raising awareness about the disease, providing early detection, education, and support services. We are committed to contributing towards building healthier communities and providing support to a worthy cause that can have a resounding effect for so many women,” said Watfa Humaid Al Harthy, Senior Mall Manager, City Centre Qurum.
All throughout October on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, visitors interested to buy tickets for the annual Walkathon event taking place on October 31, 4PM at Qurum National Park, can visit the OCA counters located at City Centre Muscat and City Centre Qurum.
